The Evolution of the Textbook

As hard as we worked on Life on Earth, we're convinced it is a transitional product--a bridge between where we've been and where we're going to be very soon. The customizability of textbooks and the integration with course structures like iTunes U is going to result in an ecosystem for learning that will hardly be recognizable. The Next Generation Science Standards present honorable goals for rising above the limitations of textbook as teaching instruments. We think the evolution of textbooks is going to be the vehicle for NGSS and other reform efforts to take hold. Life on Earth is the starting point.
